Paul Cluver‘s Noble Late Riesling last night made the perfect pairing with a decadent cheese board and good company.
Liquid gold, as it is poured, surrendering aromas of peach, pineapple, fynbos honey and orange blossom. On the palate it is luxurious with a satin finish that reaches all the corners of your mouth. Freshly caramelised pineapple, quince jelly, perfectly ripe apricots lightly spiced with sweet ginger. The compelling complexity, tantalising acidity and an incredible length is all in perfect harmony.
Internationally Riesling is one of the most popular varieties to make Noble Late wines from due to its natural high acidity and stereo type exuberant aromas. A cool climate is preferable, so it is no wonder that Paul Cluver, our biggest Riesling producer who is situated in one of our coolest wine regions; Elgin, produces one of the highest acclaimed Noble Late wines in South Africa.
