LIQUID MEMORY; Mullineux Signature Wines.

“The compelling 2022 release of our Mullineux Signature range celebrates the Old Vines White, Syrah and Straw Wine which have been the steadfast pillars of our Mullineux collection since their debut in 2008.”

The Mullineuxs entered the market to high acclaim in 2008. It has been incredible to witness the awe-inspiring journey of this, now internationally renowned brand, and the evolvement of Andrea and Chris as winemakers and viticulturists. After 14 vintages they continue to be progressive, while adapting to the challenges of climate change, and year after year producing phenomenal wines that stand proud on an international stage, rubbing shoulders with some of the best wines in the world.

It may be a stale allegation when it comes to the Mullineuxs, but the new releases are once again their best yet. These sophisticated wines are hallmarks of the rugged Swartland terroir, an equilibrium of elegance and power and utterly compelling.

Mullineux Old Vines White 2021

62% Chenin Blanc, 10% Clairette Blanche, 9% Viognier, 7% Grenache Blanc, 6% Verdelho and 6% Semillon.

This wine feels like a luxury; embellished with beautiful fruit purity, the palate of the finest Thai silk, shimmering with vibrant acidity.

Brilliant aromatics of sweet pea, tinned pineapple, elderflower, white peach and lemon peel grounded with a chalky minerality. A precise yet broad palate showcases the fruit concentration from the old vines and is simultaneously both intellectually and spiritually stimulating.

Price: R350
Total production: 25 041 bottles and 96 magnums.

Mullineux Syrah 2019

A wine that speaks authentically of its origin and the vine’s survival of the drought. Andrea is a self-proclaimed tannin geek and is most excited about the glorious ‘Swartland tannins’ showcased and celebrated in this vintage. She describes them as a “wintergreen tannin which perceives coolness”. An abundance of dark broody fruit; black cherries, plums and bramble berries spiced with aniseed and dried fynbos. A medium bodied wine with exceptional elegance.

Price: R375
388 bottles and 167 magnums.

Mullineux Straw Wine 2021

The secret to The Mullineux Straw Wine is the picking of the Chenin Blanc grapes at a traditional ripeness for a still wine, which in return retains the natural acidity. The wine has the expected viscosity of a straw wine, intricately spun with vibrancy and freshness. An appealing, flavoursome length of dried peach, apricots and honeysuckle. A wine that charms and asks the question of why we don’t enjoy dessert wine more often…

Price: R535 per 375ml bottle
Total production: 7 650 bottles.
