LIQUID MEMORY. Van Wyk Family Wines Rebecca May 2018.

What an absolutely charming wine; Rebecca May is a wine full of elegance and class. She is spellbindingly beautiful yet she doesn’t know it, she isn’t arrogant or brash but softly spoken, an intelligent and highly enjoyable wine to contemplate and keep you in good company.

Predominately Cinsault, this wine is given structure, and a warm spice by a component of Syrah and plush voluptuous flesh donated by some Grenache. Married together, this unison is eloquent and soft. Underlying the bright plump red and purple fruit is an inkling of wet clay minerality and earthy nuances which adds complexity and sophistication to this intoxicating mirage of floral and fruit delicacies. The acidity sings in soprano lifting the purity of fruit, which hums tunefully along.

The wine is predominantly fermented as whole bunches, basket pressed and followed by maturation in 3rd- and 4th-fill French oak barrels for 7 months before bottling.

Van Wyk Family Wines is the own label of the winemaker at Constantia Glen, Justin. A project which sees him explore outside the boundaries of Constantia in terms of terroir and cultivars. He is known to be a meticulous wine maker and has consistently produced wines of high acclaim at Constantia Glen. It’s very exciting to see him challenging himself and lending his creativity and passion to other wines, wines which proudly bear his family name and those of his daughters.

A very small production and this vintage has sold out from the farm. But Wine Menu still has so Buy Here! All Justin’s wines are available to taste and buy at Constantia Glen. For more information and to see the full range have a look at their website or follow on social media.
