The oenophiles go cray cray, and poor 27 year old Sakkie Mouton was inundated with requests to share the 370 bottles of his maiden wine with the world.
Although he wasn’t an easy man to track down. (Apparently his lack of social media was part of a marketing plan!) Those determined enough (myself included) put our trust in this unknown young winemaker and Greg Sherwood and bought what we could.
I have three bottles. One was sipped and enjoyed at sunset, beach side in Mauritius, the next bottle will be putting my new Coravin to good use, to sip and savour as long as I can. And the final bottle I will try and lie down for 5-10 years.
Whether it was in my mind, or in the surrounding sea air or on my palate; but there was a distant salty / savoury line to this wine complimenting its mineral core. The fruit {bruised yellow apples, quince, citrus} lightly danced on the palate with the perfect proportion of acidity, making your mouth salivate for more.
A pure, precise & honest wine with a nervous tension running through. Incredibly well made, I think Sakkie Mouton will be a household name in a few years. I for one cannot wait to see what else he has up his talented, Crayfish catching, sleeves
