Hannes Storm’s wines have hit The Hemel en Aarde like a gentle hurricane of focused, site specific purity since his maiden vintage in 2012.
Hannes had previously worked for the valley’s Grandfather of Cool Climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay; Hamilton Russell Vineyard, for 12 vintages adequately filling (the very big shoes) of his legendary predecessor; Kevin Grant. In this time he discovered two virgin parcels of exceptional terroir and planted Pinot Noir. Now he produces 3 site specific Pinot Noirs expressing the character and individuality of the three Hemel en Aarde wards. It’s with Hannes’ focus, restraint and minimal intervention in the cellar that these wines are increasingly recognised as some of the best in the region. His Pinots are all naturally balanced with vibrant acidity, good length and a exceptional matière We tasted his second release of his Chardonnay as well which has to be one of my favourites. It’s bold and lush yet chilled and precise. Any true chardomaniac would be in Chardonnay heaven upon sipping this liquid gold. Citrus, passion fruit, pear and spice with a beautiful mineral finish & fresh eggshell flintiness.
Thank you for a stunning tasting Hannes. Always a pleasure sipping & swirling your elegant and simply beautiful wines.
