Tonight I’m enjoying my first, or at least the first wine from 🇸🇮 Slovenia 🇸🇮 I can remember!
And definitely the first time I’ve tried 🍇 FURMINT 🍇. Did you know that viticulture & winemaking existed in Slovenia 🇸🇮 in the times of the celts, long before the Romans introduced wine making to France 🇫🇷
🍷Today Slovenia has more than 28,000 wineries. Most wine produced is consumed in Slovenia with a small percentage being exported.
🍷 75% of wine produced in Slovenia is white.
🔙 to this refreshing wine… which came highly recommend by Jancis Robinson & my new favourites at Park and Bridge it’s a very aromatic dry white with lively acidity and packed full of flavour and spice; steely smoke, lime peel, pears, buttercups, quince, peach. It’s got great complexity and is perfectly balanced and clean with lingering length. It reminded me of some South African Sauv/Sem wines. 15% new French oak with 4 month lees contact which is evident but subtle. 🍇 Furmint buds early and ripens late. It has the longest growing period and we know hang time is golden! 🍇 Versus was founded by 3 winemaking friends in 2007 and is seen as some of the most exciting producers in Slovenia. And this wine proves why!
