My Last night in London I was spoiled with dinner at Caldesi in Campagna, one of four Michelin star restaurants in the small sleepy village, Bray (home to The Fat Duck).
The key strength in Italian cuisine is the use of few {quality} ingredients and corresponding simplicity. Oh and of course wonderful expressive staff. Last nights dinner was simply exceptional. As expected the wine list was heavenly and extremely expensive with wines up to & over £400. I asked the sommelier for a light bodied red that would complement the duck dish ordered as well as the Cornish crab linguine (pictured here). I also asked her for something that didn’t break the bank. This was her recommendation and if I went back I would have ordered the same. Like Italian food it was simple yet outstanding and bursting with flavour. Wild fruits, wild strawberries, mulberry and pomegranate with a savoury rounded finish and delicate black pepper. It paired perfectly with my beef carpaccio to start and beautiful crab linguine for mains. A match made in heaven in fact. .
Cerasuolo di Vittoria
Cerasuolo di Vittoria D.O.C.G.
60% Nero d’Avola 40% Frappato
From the countryside of Dorilli, between the sea and the Iblean mountains, known as the centre of excellence for Sicilian food, comes Planeta Cerasuolo di Vittoria. The name of the only DOCG in Sicily comes from ‘Cerasa’, cherry in Sicilian dialect. It is produced from the indigenous varieties Nero d’Avola and Frappato. A unique wine, recognisable and unforgettable for its youthful flavours and aromas of cherry, strawberry and pomegranate, due to the particular soil and climate in which the grapes are cultivated. A wine which like few others combines tradition and delicious wine.
